Portal should save Battlefield 2042, but has great problems

The Battlefield series is a franchise of video game that includes twelve games up until now. The most recent game of the series is Battlefield 2042, which is offered for Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and also Xbox Series X/ S. Apart from Battlefield Heroes, which drops into the classification Third-Person shooter, each previous part of the Battlefield collection is an ego shooter from the subgenre of the strategy shooter. The emphasis is on large cards (up to 128 players in the computer and Next-Gen versions) along with a combination of dirt, air and also water units, the latter having the least focus in the collection.

Before Release of Battlefield 2042 was the most exciting mode for fans Battlefield Portal. Currently, plague portal but great problems. Mango tells you what's going on and what that is.

Even before Battlefield 2042 was playable, fans and press agreed: Battlefield Portal is the most exciting mode in the game. Especially in view of the many problems of Battlefield 2042 itself, portal was for the community of mode that can save the game.

Portal Isn't Going To Save Battlefield 2042 - RANT

The ability to develop over the portal almost limitlessly own game modes and scenarios has already inspired fans as a concept. An equally clever like bizarre wing suit training course in Portal has even impressed employees of DICE (via Reddit).

But portal currently has big problems. Now fans make sure that the creative workshop portal is convicted to fail when the developers do not act. We tell you what the biggest problems of portal are — and whether the developers do something about it.

players lack the motivation to play portal

What is the problem? One of the biggest problems of portal is that players lack the motivation to play it. This is at the rate with which your XP earns in portal matches:

There is a limit to XP for your account that you can earn over portal games. On portal servers, you get less XP for the same actions as in the other modes of Battlefield 2042. There is no XP in Portal for weapons, vehicles or specialists.

Since you get a few until no experience points in Battlefield Portal, players see no reason to play it. Thus, Reddit User Alaskan curry also says: The [missing XP] are the reason why I do not play portal (via Reddit).

What is the solution? To release the game, you can collect as much XP in Portal Matches, as in the other game modes of Battlefield 2042. Because Portal was therefore fast full of XP farm servers, DICE has The XP in Portal is strongly limited and partially deactivated.

If these limitations removed again, players would have played more reasons to play Battlefield Portal.

Comes the solution? Justin Waive, one of the developers of the portal mode, was announced on November 25, 2021, on Twitter that these XP caps are to be abolished. But he did not mention an appointment:

Portal feels like demos age games

What is the problem? About Battlefield Portal are available to players Maps, weapons, fractions and soldiers from 4 Battlefield games:

Battlefield 2042 Battlefield 1942 Battlefield Bad Company 2 Battlefield 3

Although all contents from Battlefield 2042 are available in Portal, the selection for the 3 Battlefield classics is limited. Each of the old games are 2 maps to choose from. The weapons, vehicles and essays are not a complete list, just a 'best of.'

That's too little for players. Just because Battlefield 2042 is so unpopular under fans, they want more content from the popular classics. What is currently offered, feel like demos age games :

Portal is very boring quickly, if you only play the demos old battlefield games. With only 2 maps [per game] and not all weapons / vehicles / attachments. If we had all the weapons / vehicles / attachments and about the 6 best maps per battlefield game, then every portal would play.

Kimono on Reddit

What is the solution? How the Reddit User Kimono says, the fans want more content from the old games. Whether that will happen is unclear:

For Battlefield 2042 itself, more than Battle Passes and the Seasons are to be added. What exactly these contents are, and whether you should also get Battlefield Portal new content is still unclear.

Does the solution come? According to an unconfirmed leak of industry insider Tom Henderson, the following content should be added with each season:

1 new specialist 2 new maps for Battlefield 2042 2 new portal maps An update for the Hazard zone to run over a story 6 to 8 new weapons for each mode 2 to 3 new vehicles for each mode 100 Season stages

However, this info are based on Leaks and have not been confirmed by no official source yet. Therefore, it is not yet clear whether portal is actually getting new content.

The servers are empty and disappear

What is the problem? The 2 described problems lead to a 3rd problem, and that's probably the biggest thing: the servers of Battlefield Portal are too empty. And as soon as a server has completely emptied, it also disappears from the list.

In Germany, this leads to the following picture in the server browser of Portal:

Most servers are either not well filled or have too high ping. Only inefficient XP farm servers can continue to lure successfully players.

As soon as a server completely empties, it also disappears from the list. For a portal game mode to be played again, a player must create a new server with the game mode.

Therefore, players from Australia and New Zealand are now talking about the fact that portal is already dead despite crossly. This also lies because of geographical reasons in all games, most of the server issues exist (via Reddit).

What is the solution? On social media, players want that DICE and EA make it possible to rent private servers. This feature was present in old Battlefield games and very popular. Thanks to private servers, which can be rented in old Battlefield games, these still have a lively — albeit small — community.

Does the solution come? Private servers do not exist in Battlefield 2042. There are no signs that the developers want to change the time foreseeable.

That's just angry the fans on Reddit:

HowardbunnyColvin writes: That's the thing that is most at orienting the new Battlefields. [The developers] are happy with BMM [skill-based matchmaking] and do not want private or clan servers anymore. It's so stupid (via Reddit). Doctorates says: For some reason you can not buy private servers for BF2042. Strunzdumme's decision of DICE, but you know that now (via Reddit).

The biggest problems of Battlefield portal are the lack of motivation for players, a too small selection of maps and weapons and resulting server poverty. Whether and how the developers will intervene there is currently not clear.

So the mode is suffering from Battlefield 2042, even. How do your portal so far? Do you enjoy the old games in the new guise? Or is the offered too little? And what creative game modes have you already discovered? Let's know us in the comments.

Another big topic in the community is currently the missing support for mouse & keyboard on consoles. You can learn more about this in our article:
